The Community Work Placements programme works with people who have been out of employment for a long time and provides them with support and experience to get back into the labour market.
We met Barry, one of Groundwork’s CWP clients, who is currently completing a placement at Longley 4G Community Centre in Sheffield.
“I’ve been here for three months now and it’s great, I really enjoy it. I think the best part has been meeting people. Everyone I work with has made me feel so welcome.
I really wanted to do this programme. It’s gets me out of the house because sometimes it’s easy to get stuck in a bit of a rut.
Now, I feel more motivated and I’ve come out of my shell. I’d love to get into this type of work and now I have some experience, so I’d say that the programme has definitely helped me”.
Sheryl Roberts is the Business Development Manager at the community centre.
“Barry is great. He’s so enthusiastic and helps us with general maintenance like gardening, painting and cleaning.
Before we had Barry, a lot of the work was done by volunteers who could only spare a bit of time. It’s made all the difference having someone here full-time.”
