The sun came out on Sunday 17th July for the Rabbit Ings Summer Gala and Dog Show, organised by the Friends of Rabbit Ings.
In the beautiful surroundings of the country park, which is managed and maintained by Groundwork SY, there were stalls, charity displays and a bouncy castle ready to entertain the local community.
Groundwork South Yorkshire Trustee, Cat Stokowska, was on hand to recruit Citizen Scientists to help with our Clean Water Blitz of the park's ponds, testing the water for cleanliness in conjunction with the nationwide PondNet project.
These Citizen Scientists are testing the water for concentrations of phosphate and nitrate to make sure Rabbit Ings' pond life is healthy and growing properly!
Lowland Search and Rescue were there to perform a display with their rescue dog, Poppy, who was able to this 'missing' person in seconds!
Finally the fun rounded off with the now famous Dog Show. There were awards for cutest puppy, golden oldie, best trick as well as 'waggiest' tail and dog who looks most like its owner!
Since the park officially opened to the public in 2011 , the Friends of Rabbit Ings have held four such summer galas – each one bigger and better than the last, which have had a noticeable impact on bringing the local community together. They are now also planning events for Halloween and Christmas, so stay tuned!
Special Thanks to Pet Bay Ltd for donating the prizes for the dog show.
