Groundwork South Yorkshire has now run three successful Enterprise Camps as part of the Talent Match programme. Last week, it was time to get all the participants together to celebrate their completion of the course with a graduation event!
The Camp allows young people who are not in education, employment or training to complete an intensive enterprise course away from home. It takes a huge amount of strength and confidence to sign up and attend but these guys all did it and we couldn’t be prouder!
The day started by re-living the good old days on the programme. A morning of team-building activities saw that the day would get off smoothly.
After that, it was time to go inside ready for the graduation ceremony. Our special guest was Sophie Maxwell from the Really Neet College. Sophie spoke about her own experiences of youth homelessness and how she turned it all around with the help of a mentor and lots of determination.
Once the ceremony was over, it was time to tuck into the food! Cupcakes were a particular hit.
Feeling suitably proud, we headed back outside for some photos of the Enterprise Camp graduates.
It was a fantastic day and really gave the young people the opportunity to reflect on what a great experience they had.
Vicki, a previous Enterprise Camp participant shared her story with us earlier this year:
"When I first got told about Enterprise Camp I was unsure about going away for two nights. But when I met a girl who went to the previous camp, I thought to myself – “if you can do it, I can!” I could take my son away as childcare was made available. I had been really worried about going, but I’m so glad I went. It was amazing! I have made so many friends and swapped phone numbers.
"It’s given me lots of opportunities. I’m doing a confidence course next, and I’ve signed up to the ‘Back on Track’ programme."
