Rabbit Ings sets a new record for breeding with the arrival of five Barn Owl chicks.
All week several attempts to get up to the box to check on the little ones were thwarted, firstly by the weather, then on Monday we got to the box but the ladder wasn't long enough!!! Natalie Girgis from the Friends of Rabbit Ings managed to get a longer ladder from a local aerial and satellite dish installer and saved the day.
As a result our five little chicks have been ringed and numbered, with ringing being carried out under licence by Geoff Carr, a local Environmental Consultant.
The breeding box was put up in January 2015, donated and erected by Monckton Coke and Chemical Works following their closure in December 2014. We are extremely grateful to them for honouring their promise to provide the box despite their closure.
