Our TME participant, Luke, has gained a huge amount thanks to the help provided through Depaul UK and his Groundwork South Yorkshire Employment Coach, Nat.
Luke was recently referred to Groundwork South Yorkshire (GWSY) by Depaul UK, a national charity that aims to help disadvantaged young people and end homelessness. Down on his luck, earlier this year, Luke had nowhere to live and was out of a job, but with support from Depaul and Groundwork SY, Luke has really turned his life around.
Through Depaul, Luke was able to find a council flat. However, with only £89 per week, Luke was only just managing to pay his rent and bills, and often couldn’t afford to buy food. He desperately wanted to work but needed more dedicated help to get work ready.
After his very first meeting with his GWSY Employment Coach, Nat, he was referred to a training course with SSP, with the guarantee of an interview for a 12 month apprenticeship. However, with little cash to his name, Luke did not own clothes that would be appropriate for an interview, and did not have a proper winter coat. Nat, therefore, managed to get him a meeting at The Suit Works, a free service that helps unemployed men succeed at interview through personal styling. Vanda at The Suit Works was fantastic. She sized Luke up and found him a beautiful stylish suit, fitted shirt, tie, belt and shoes. She also gave him a thick, designer winter coat that he could wear over his suit, and a thick hoody.
Luke is a lot happier and has been extremely grateful for the support he has received, and Nat is confident that he will be in employment very soon.
