Mick Birkinshaw - Park Ranger

Mick has been with Groundwork since January 2007. He is responsible for the day-to-day running of Rabbit Ings Country Park. This includes, daily patrols, organising events and promoting the park. Mick works closely with other organisations and hosts school trips, duathlons and cross country races.

Prior to working at Groundwork, Mick was a proud miner who worked his way up to colliery deputy. After that, he moved on to work for the Countryside Service departments at local councils to assist with guided walks and other events.

Highlight of the role: “Working outside, working with schools, organising and running events and thinking of new ideas”.

Why Groundwork South Yorkshire is great: “I enjoy the creative freedom that allows me to organise my daily role as I see fit. Management are also very supportive of my work on Rabbit Ings”.
