The Groundwork NCS Autumn 2015 programme is in full swing in Sheffield.
The Groundwork team were tasked with recruiting 30 teenagers to take part in NCS this Autumn. However, the programme was so popular that 91 young people signed up!
The programme kicked off with 3 nights at Carlton Lodge in Thirsk. The teams took part in kayaking, rock climbing and martial arts.
We caught up with the group back in Sheffield, where they took part in various workshops to build skills and learn about themselves and the community.
The first workshop was Blue Dot. Blue Dot is the result of a Groundwork NCS social action project, conceived by young people during the NCS Summer 2014 programme. The group now deliver workshops to young people about understanding mental health.
The teams then completed a self-defence workshop with Defence Lab. Young people were taught how to recognise when violence might be happening, how to avoid fighting and where necessary, how to protect yourself.
Tomorrow, the teams will continue their NCS journey and take part in the famous (and much-feared!) dragons’ den.
Over the next few days, we’ll be uploading NCS stories on the ‘Your Stories’ blog.
