Paces is a leading specialist centre for children with cerebal palsy and other motor disorders.
They teach children through conductive education, which recognises that everyone has the capability to learn and develop irrespective of their beginnings. This is done through a multi-disciplinary approach, encompassing cognitive, social, emotional strands and considers the individual as a whole.
Paces would like their outdoor play area to reflect this ethos and support their programmes. Currently, the play area is a blank canvas, with a large concrete patio and a grassy area. Parents have commented that it is very difficult to get their disabled children and able-bodied children to mix together, many playgrounds lack both disabled access and play equipment that is appropriate for disabled children. For many activities, able-bodied children may have finished playing while disabled children are only just starting – this, in many instances, leaves children frustrated and dejected.
The Tesco Bags of Help project will help create an imaginative, creative and inclusive play area where all children can play together and is accessible to everyone. This will help children in coping with main stream schools, teaching them how to play and socialise together as well as developing skills to deal with difficulties in life.
Play equipment with sensory and physical play elements will be installed such as a rainmaker, a wave swing, music box and rainbow beat. Planters will also be incorporated into the playground, helping children to learn all about plants and how they grow. Working in partnership with High Green In Bloom, this is set to be a bright, colourful and magical place. “The sky is the limit” says Natalie Yarrow, Funding Co-ordinator. It is clear that Paces want to do everything in their power to offer these children with cerebal palsy every opportunity.
As a well-known proverb goes “The body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter and the spirit heals with joy”. Please help heal these children and bring joy into their hearts and vote for them in in the following Tesco stores:
