Samantha talks about her experience of the Talent Match programme.
Sam joined Groundwork’s Talent Match programme in Barnsley earlier this year.
“I came along to the ‘Pamper Day’ that the Groundwork Talent Match team organised in Barnsley. I’d heard about the event and I was interested to see what was on offer.
Once I got there, I had a makeover and I started to get chatting to one of the Talent Match coaches. I’ve got two children and I was getting really bored, staying at home all day and not working. I really wanted to get out there and earn some money.
I started to meet up with my Talent Match coach and ended up getting a few job interviews. Each time, my coach helped me with interview techniques and eventually, I was offered a job as a warehouse operative at Next.
I really like my job. Even though it’s really tiring and very hard work, I love earning my own money and also having a bit of time away from my kids.
In the future, I really want my own business. I feel much more motivated now and I’m really proud that I can pay for things for my children myself.
I’d definitely encourage other young people who aren’t working to try Talent Match. It’ll help you get where you want to be.”
Talent Match is a programme to help young people aged between 18 and 24 into meaningful work, education or training. The programme is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and is managed by Sheffield Futures in the Sheffield City Region.
