As part of the Community Work Programme, Groundwork South Yorkshire is committed to finding work for local jobseekers.
Last Friday, we teamed up with Cluck, a new restaurant opening in Sheffield, to host a recruitment day for them to find kitchen staff, bar staff and even a potential manager!
Cleo Metcalf, Employment Skills and Training Director at Groundwork first spotted the opportunity: “On my drive home from work one day, I noticed that a new restaurant was opening on Prince of Wales Road. We got in touch with the owner of the restaurant to see if we could assist with the recruitment of local staff. Together, we agreed to organise a recruitment day for jobseekers to attend, without them having to submit an application form first.”
Simon Beattie, Managing Director at Cluck said: “People submit application forms but never get through to interview stage. We want to put the person first. We know that we can train people up to do the job but what we can’t train is personality; and that’s what we’re looking for today.”
Alan, a recruitment day attendee, said “It’s great not to just be a piece of paper for once. I actually get to talk!”
Here are some photos from the event:
“I’m going to manage the restaurant for now, so that in the next year, we will have trained up someone here today to take over from me” - Simon Beattie, Managing Director at Cluck.
“More recruitment should be done in this way. Normally I’m a nervous wreck before interviews! But here, the Managing Director has done a presentation, so I’m much more relaxed now” – Kirsty, recruitment day attendee.
Sheffield Live TV came along and spoke to Groundwork’s James Farmer about the local jobs up for grabs at Cluck.
